Don't give up yet, Episode Two is even better than Half-Life 2 despite its shortness. You can try the "restart" command in the console, it will only reload the current map. If that doesn't fix it, there's a loading screen about 5 seconds after you get on the elevator, you can just jump to the next map by typing this into the console: map ep1_c17_01
